Day 4 -- 92 degrees -- TS 20 in the bag

Just spoke to Byron as they passed through time station 20 and the energy is all positive. Mike’s in full focus mode and ready for Kansas coming up. In fact he’s really looking forward to tearing it up in Kansas. Kansas is also Byron’s home state and it’s the type of terrain where Trevino excels. His record ride across Iowa was set on the same types of rolling roads.

Last night going up Wolf Creek Pass, a 2800 ft. climb, the crew timed both Mike and Marko Baloh. At the bottom of the climb, Trevino had a 30 minute lead – by the top he’d increased the margin to 62 minutes. Who says Mike can’t climb well on that Softride?

It’s currently 92 degrees and Mike’s taking in about 2-3 water bottles/Cytomax and electrolytes per hour. In addition to eating a lot of tortilla wraps, he’s also been wolfing down a lot of ice cream. “Just give me regular food,” is what he’s telling the crew.

He’s also drastically cut down on the number of Mountain Dews. He had six of them the day he had stomach issues and the crew thinks that could have been a contributing factor.

Way to go Babe! I'm so relieved to hear that you're feeling back to your old self again. My mom was thrilled that her date bars saved the day...more bars and banana bread on the way! Don't forget ginger ale for your stomach...we gave it to you last year.

Keep up the great job and can't wait to see you on Friday.

Holy Buckets! Well... as a former neighbor in Fat Dog, now living in Colorado, I'm thrilled to know we were in the same state even if for just a brief time. It looks like you've just about crossed into Kansas where no more pesky mountains will get in your way... although they did not seem to slow you down much. Everyone here in Colorado Springs is rooting for you (b/c if they don't, I'll thump them) so I hope you feel our energy! All the best... you're a hero!

Mike and Crew...you are all doing an AWESOME job out there!! I could hoot-n-holler-n-scream-n-shout, but the other people in this library already wonder why face is totally and endlessly mashed to this computer! If it weren't for this little "connection" to you guys, a bunch of us would probably have nervous breakdowns!
And Mike, you just keep on keepin' on, cuz you don't want me to have drive all the way out there just to join your crew for one huge collective butt kicking! That's right...the thought of that ought to have you pedalin' harder :)
Cheers to you all, and the new crew members to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going for a run in the mountains now, and yes, I'm taking you with me.
The sun is shining, birds are chirping, delicate flowers peek above the bright green grass waving back and forth in the gentle breeze, the trail ahead calls...much like but not nearly as loud as Atlantic City calls YOU.
Smile, extra mental clarity coming your way.

Hi Mike,

How was that descent off Cucharas Pass? I know when I did it in RAAM 1991 I hit 60 mph, and that was at about 10 PM in the dark. And then there's that awesome long gradual downhill to Trinidad with the very interesting rock formations and catecomb-like coke ovens - all very interesting.

I'd love to comment more about your diet/nutrition, but now is not the best time to do that. One thing's for certain, all that simple sugar in the Mountain Dews is not good. I think your crew is on target about all that simple sugar as a contributing factor of the stomach issues.

P.S. I wish I could also have ridden through Monument Valley under a full moon again like you did. It's such an ethereal experience.
