Morning Update .. Mike feeling good again

Spoke to Byron just now and he’s reporting that Mike probably took in some bad food yesterday that gave him a pretty bad case of diarrhea. They took some down time, called some doctors to get advise on the phone, and while one doctor suggested he stop riding -- another, with RAAM experience, suggested he get some good food in him and continue.

Mike’s been eating turkey roll-ups and burritos that were pre-made in San Diego. The crew’s decided to start handling all the food with latex gloves from here on so as to avoid any more possible contamination.

Mike got about a 50-minute nap during his down time and is feeling good again. The biggest problem right now is they’re fighting some pretty strong headwinds going into Durango, Colo. It’s a consistent 10mph, gusting to 20mph right into Mike’s face. Not what you want when you’re riding across the country.

Long story short is Mike’s feeling strong again and has put about an hour or more on MacDonald and is focused on bringing back Robic and Baloh.

It’s a long race.

So there it is 46 miles between Mike and Robic - glad to hear Mike's in gear - now get him back on the Cytomax, hold out on the comfort foods until later in the race - you'll need 'em later.

Robic may be questioning why he chose to match Penseyres pace now.
As usual strange high pressure in the east forcing air westerly.

I'll be reporting on surface wind conditions in the Miss. valley, they rarely reflect weather report by commercial outlets.....

Don't forget, the more we both know the better.....

Mike,

Wish I was there with you. The day you are having today would have put us on the Top of the World.

Thinking of ya man.

PS: Wang is in town and I may get to see him. Either way I will check on 2008.

Mike,

Your friends in Canada are logging in every hour to track your progress. We were there at the start and finish line of your very first ultra in San dieog county and your 24 hour track race and we really wish we could be there every mile with you on the road now.

We know that your amazing dedication, training and focus towards your goal will really help you in the 2nd half of the race.

A true champion is defined not by how he responds to favorable situations, but by how he deals with setbacks. Find the groove and punch it Mike!

Mike, I am a friend of your dad's from Des Moines. I just got off the phone with your dad as he was in town and needed an update on your progress. Your younger brother and sister did not know where to go on the computer to tell him. Keep on going and stay focused. We are all proud of the guy who set a record across Iowa.

Glad you got a second opinion, just don't hang around so long that Breedlove catches up to you, we would never hear the end of it back here in Iowa. :-)
Stay hydrated, push the Cytomax and OS Endurance.
Got the whole family watching you Mike.

This is Neil (Brett's brother's) wife, Alissa. I"ve been keeping track of this race and am bummed I didn't start tracking you sooner (a couple of years ago), because you are AWESOME! You have turned a setback into a hiccup, and have continued to roll w/ the punches! Neil's and my thoughts are w/ you!!!
